Recap
Eldon had the following to say about this year's appearance at the Festival of Books:
"First, let me give a quick shout to Takeshi Nakazawa
and family for braving the heat and the traffic to stop by and pay
me a visit. I know Take from the gym, but this was the first time I'd
had the pleasure of meeting his lovely wife and their four darling
daughters. He further tackled Mysterious Galaxy's customer lines in
order to purchase a signed copy of The Crimson Sword—which
I hope he doesn't intend to let his daughters read until they are
little older. Either way, thanks Take.
Second, let me say what a pleasure it was to meet
fellow authors Joanne Fluke (thanks for bringing the cookies!),
Taffy Cannon, and Stuart Woods. Kind folks all, who helped me to
feel welcome, even though all three write mystery, making me the
lone fantasy writer among them. Of course, none were more welcoming
than the Mysterious Galaxy staff and volunteers, who kept us watered
and well-stocked with books. As always, their hospitality is top
notch.
Naturally, the greatest pleasure in all of this is
the opportunity to meet existing fans and new readers alike. Not
every reader out there is willing to take a shot on someone they
haven't read (or maybe even heard of) before. But this event always
introduces me to a few who are willing, and I'm left to hope
that they aren't disappointed with their decision later on. For any
of you who are, however, know that you'll likely be able to find me
in the same place at roughly the same time next year, in case you
wish to discuss that disappointment or request a refund. If nothing
else, perhaps I'll follow Joanne's lead and bring cookies—shaped
like dragons, of course."
