Happy New Year 2010

December 31, 2009

The following is a brief message (and overdue progress report) from Eldon:

"Looks like 2009 is drawing to a close—mercifully so, according to most people I've talked to. I can't say I'll miss it. Then again, I'm always expecting tomorrow to be better than today. Not sure how folks could make it through life otherwise.

I don't have much to offer at the moment in terms of writing news. As most of you have discovered by now, I finally caught up to the new decade (just as it's coming to a close) by starting a blog. Most of my comings and goings are documented there and in the revamped forum. I'll still be posting any major announcements here, in the General News section. But for those who wish to keep closer tabs on my lurkings, you'd be better off bookmarking those pages than this one. Of course, I've also been sucked into the world of social networking, so you'll find me on MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. Okay, so I rarely update MySpace or Facebook, and I have yet to "tweet" anything, but hey, at least you'll get the obituary notice if I happen to keel over before anything else newsworthy happens.

Until then, know that I'm working hard (most of the time) and out there chasing carrots. I've learned to tell people that this writing game is a lot like fishing (stop me if you've already heard this): all you can do is bait your hooks, cast them in the water, and troll around for that big catch. Maybe you get a nibble now and then. Maybe you get four at the same time. Maybe you even reel one or more of them into the boat before they flop away while you're reaching for the bat. Regardless, there's no real measurement for progress. You might come home with your limit, or you might be out there all day without so much as a single scale for your efforts. In the meantime, the best you can do is enjoy the wind, the waves, the beer, and the company. Anything else is just a bonus. In other words, it's more about the journey than the destination.

In any case, I hope everyone has had a blessed holiday season. And my wishes go out for a healthy, peaceful, and prosperous 2010. I mean, my God, is it 2010 already? Life just keeps moving faster and faster. Can't stop it, so might as well find reason enjoy it. Though it may be just another revolution of the earth around the sun, may it bring comfort and fresh hope to those in need. Happy New Year!"

There you have it. Eldon failed to mention that 2009 marked the paperback release of The Divine Talisman, which means that all three books are now available in that format. While there are stories within the saga that are yet to be told, the Legend of Asahiel trilogy is complete. So, for those of you who were waiting to make sure that the story was finished before you dove into it, now's the time to catch up with everyone else.

Have a great year, everyone!
